Getting dressed for a painting session is tricky. A casual outfit, like jeans and a t-shirt, may seem like a natural choice, but what about the social edge of the experience? All the new friends you might make there or at the nice dinner afterwards? The photos that will remind you of those precious moments? Your desire to express yourself through what you wear?
As a certified art therapist who devoted her life to creating art experiences, I can share a couple of sip and paint outfit ideas that really work. At Unarthodox, we arrange everything so that our guests’ clothes stay as clean as when they arrived; however, there are a few things you might consider.
We provide aprons and smocks in neutral colors, but flowy sleeves can be the weak spot. Clothes with short sleeves or fitted long sleeves, on the contrary, are a great example of what to wear to a paint and sip party. If you opt for sleeves that roll up, ensure they stay rolled up on their own.
This doesn’t mean you must avoid wearing clothes with wider sleeves altogether or choose an official painting outfit. You’ll just need a bit of extra care while painting.
Our guests typically sit at the table while painting, even if it’s a team experience like Group Mural. So ruffles and frills are mostly covered either by the table or the apron. Yet, items that fit snugger on the body are less likely to brush against the wet canvas if you walk around during the paint and sip event.
Our interactive art studio in NYC, as well as the one in Miami, features climate control, and we ensure the temperature is comfortable. For off-site paint and sip events, you may want to wear a layered paint night outfit so that your clothing is in perfect balance with the surroundings.
If the immersive art experience is just the beginning of a boys’ or girls’ night what to wear to a paint and sip party becomes a more difficult question – you’ll want a 100% no-spills guarantee!
If you’re unwilling to rely on the smocks we provide, a long sweater or tunic can cover the designer clothes made of valuable materials like silk or cashmere during paint and sip events. More often than not, this ends up as an excessive precaution, especially when it comes to the calmer experiences like Brunch With Monet.
If you want to wear a long necklace or scarf as a style statement, they can be easily hidden from paint under our aprons. Alternatively, we offer a safe place to keep your items for a few hours during paint and sip events.
Rings and dangling bracelets aren’t exactly the best idea of what to wear when painting. You may need to take extra care to prevent them from contacting paint.
Our guests paint sitting at the table, so even at such an event as Intuitive Art, where there are no restrictions and it’s easy to get carried away, footwear is not in the risk zone. If you still want full protection from spills and paint drops, opt for closed-toe shoes.
But the shoes should be comfortable as you might walk around, not just sit for an extended period. For instance, during Brunch With Monet, there are various theme-inspired snacks to taste. So, high heels aren’t the best idea of what to wear to a paint and sip party unless they are genuinely comfortable shoes.
At Unarthodox, we ensure that our guests don’t have to worry about minor things, like how to protect their attire or what clothes to wear. It’s one of the multiple details we’ve thought through in advance to make each interactive art experience different from ordinary paint and sip parties. We take the stress out of planning corporate events or private birthday parties so that you can focus on making memories with your friends or team.
We hope these ideas will get the wardrobe selection problem out of your way. After all, it’s not about the clothes you wear but about having fun, unleashing your inner artist, and indulging in the creative experience!

Some guests use a bandana or a headband, others go for a ponytail, or place the hair under the band of the apron. More often, though, they just leave the hair as it is – it isn’t likely to cgause problems.
Many guests have fun and create artistic chaos on their canvas, but we don’t let paint drops spread further. We consider every detail, from the paint choice to the arrangement of each object.
